Who should attend?
Anybody who wishes to learn how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator and how to perform CPR can attend this training course. Prior first aid training is not necessary.
Course content and duration
Candidates learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of Cardiac Arrest and Choking. Upon course completion candidates will be fully competent in the operation of an AED, Adult CPR, and the treatment of a choking patient.
The Heartsaver AED course is delivered over 4 hours. Additional modules such as Paediatric Life Support, oxygen therapy, and airway management can also be added if required. The maximum number of candidates per instructor is 6 as strongly recommended by the IHF.
This ensures that each candidate receives personnel tuition, and constantly performs the required skills ensuing confidence in the candidate.
The course Instructor(s) will be an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) who will also be registered as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor with the Irish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association. Safety-Tec only use professional Paramedics as instructors, we do not use local volunteers with no professional experience/qualifications. This means that the training we deliver is of the highest possible, professional standard.
All candidates will receive a copy of the American Heart Association Heartsaver AED textbook and an interactive CD-ROM. This is a requirement of the IHF to enhance the learning process. Successful candidates will be issued with an IHF/AHA course completion card which is valid for 2 years. This ensures that the candidate receives international certification recognised worldwide.
Safety-Tec’s Paramedics can assist you in deciding what model of AED best suits your needs and provide you with a free demonstration if required.
